March 15, 2025—a date that will forever be etched in frosty folklore! In a feat that would make even Frosty the Snowman tip his hat, The Northern Maine Ice Busters (NMIB) have once again proven that when it comes to ice, size does matter. This time, they’ve outdone themselves by crafting an ice carousel that not only spins but also bridges two nations. Talk about taking “international relations” to a whole new (frozen) level!
Location, Location, Location!
Choosing the St. John River as their canvas, NMIB strategically positioned their colossal creation between Van Buren, Maine, and St. Leonard, New Brunswick. This wasn’t just any ice carousel; it was the first-ever to straddle an international border. Who knew diplomacy could be so… chilly?
International Coordination and Community Support
This historic event was made possible by extensive coordination between government agencies from both Canada and the United States. Canada Customs and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) worked seamlessly alongside the U.S. Border Patrol and the CBP Office of Field Operations to ensure the smooth execution and safety of this cross-border event. Additionally, close collaboration with the Town of Van Buren, Maine, was instrumental in managing logistics, community engagement, and local support, making the event truly representative of international cooperation and goodwill.
A Birthday Bash for the Books
Coincidentally (or perhaps by the cunning design of mastermind Roger Morneault), the event aligned perfectly with Maine’s 205th birthday. What better way to celebrate than by spinning a massive ice disk between two countries? Move over, birthday cakes; ice carousels are the new party trend.
Spinning into History
After overcoming a few technical hiccups—because what’s an epic event without some drama?—the carousel completed not one but six full revolutions. According to the esteemed World Ice Carousel Association, only one rotation is needed to set a record. But NMIB doesn’t do the bare minimum; they go full circle… six times over!
Meet the Ice Dream Team
Behind this icy marvel stands a group of dedicated individuals:
● Construction Crew: Led by the visionary Roger Morneault, supported by Josh and Jason Morneault. Surveyor extraordinaire Mike Cyr ensured everything was precisely placed, while Justin Albert and Kurt Heins provided critical mechanical support.
● Logistics Legends: Laura Pelletier and Nathalie Morneault orchestrated behind-the-scenes magic, coordinating events and merchandise. If you snagged a souvenir or enjoyed the festivities, thank these two dynamos.
● Media and Aerial Coverage: John Mazo of Aroostook Unmanned Aerial Services coordinated media outreach, drone footage, and live streaming, capturing every stunning moment.
● Special nod to Burnee, the beloved wood-burning metal giant mascot, who added extra flair and warmth to the icy event.
Special Appreciation Goes Out To:
● Ken Dumond, who showcased his classic antique Tucker Sno-cat—the coolest way imaginable to spin an ice carousel.
● Kevin Beaulieu and friends who added spectacular excitement with their helicopter entrances.
Our Northern Neighbors:
● Jean-Francois Richard (JFR) & Family, who drove 15 hours from Quebec to support and celebrate. JFR, a former record-holder himself, brought valuable experience and enthusiasm.
● Miguel & Denis Gagnon and Crew from Grand Falls, NB, who arrived with their Fat Trucks—rugged, amphibious vehicles built for the toughest terrains, ensuring the carousel spun with style and power.
What’s a Fat Truck, You Ask?
Imagine a vehicle that looks at a snowstorm and laughs. Fat Trucks are off-road, amphibious vehicles that dominate challenging winter conditions, becoming the unsung heroes of this icy escapade.
To All the Unsung Heroes
To every volunteer who braved the cold, operated equipment, or cheered us on—THANK YOU. This historic achievement belongs to each one of you.
In Conclusion
The Northern Maine Ice Busters didn’t just set a new world record; they showcased community power, international friendship, government collaboration, and a shared passion for doing incredibly cool things on ice. As the carousel spun, so did tales of teamwork, creativity, and the joy of collaboration—proving once again that when life gives you ice, you make history spin.
Stay tuned for more adventures, and remember: when life gives you cold weather, make an ice carousel!

Congratulations on another great accomplishment!
Congratulations Roger and crew. Going to school with Roger, he was always that person who pushed the ” impossible theory ” and loved to argue his point on any subject. I had no doubt this carousel would spin and make history. Again Congratulations and get job to all involved.
